Gardening!

I cannot believe I just spent 6 hours setting up my garden! Today was the most GORGEOUS day. We went out for breakfast and then I decided to take advantage of the day and garden. I never expected it to take that long, but I forgot that my container garden is significantly larger than last year's. And I haven't even gotten to the 3 containers of tomatoes yet! (Still a bit early here in West Seattle for tomatoes . . . if I'd like them to live. :)
I am attempting to grow:
Vegetables
  • Fennel
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Scallions
  • Button onions
  • Spinach
  • Basil
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Sugar snap peas
  • (and 3 tomatoes to come)
Fruit:
  • Alpine strawberries
  • Regular strawberries
  • Blueberries
Flowers:
  • Lavender
  • Nasturtium
  • Marigold (2 different ones)
  • Pansies (5 different types - I'm a pansy freak!)
  • African daisy
  • Orange symphony (forget the other name)

It felt very nurturing to have my hands in the soil/compost/fertilizer mix, getting dirty like a little kid, and knowing that I'm growing great vegetables and fruits to nourish myself and my family. The sun was shining and the breeze was light and it was just a most perfect day.

I had plans of finishing the bathroom clutter work today, but I think I need to recharge instead.

I'm so excited about my garden!!

Wahoooo! It's addictive, isn't it?!

I suggest that you grab a notebook and keep a simple journal of what you're planting and what goes right and what goes wrong, so that you can reference it next year when you're going at it again. I really wish I'd done a better job of that last year, including information about tomato varieties, when I planted each crop, etc.

That's a great idea - thanks! I know there were 2 things that didn't work last year, and a few that worked well (which I repeated and plan on repeating).
